Biography

Lucienne Tschaggeny, better known as Lucette, was a very successful tennis player for a good part of two decades following the turn of the 20th century. Born and raised in Bruxelles (Brussels), she was the younger of two daughters born to René Tschaggeny, an official of the Portuguese consulate (honorary vice consul). Tschaggeny first won a national title in ladies’ doubles alongside her sister Simonne in 1909, and won three more times in the next decade with Anne de Borman as her partner. Alongside William du Vivier, Tschaggeny also won the Belgian mixed doubles title in 1912 and 1914. At the 1920 Antwerpen Olympics, she played in the doubles tournament alongside de Borman; they had a bye in round one, but lost their opening match in round two.

Tschaggeny was a lifelong resident of Bruxelles, and never married. She was also an active golfer later in life and a longtime member of the Royal Golf Club de Belgique (Ravenstein).
