Biography

Palle Virtanen was a Finnish track and field athlete who specialised as a sprinter. Virtanen did the double in the 100 and 200 metres at the national championships in both 1932 and 1935. Also in 1935 he ran the 100 metres in 10.7 seconds to set a Finnish record that stood for the best part of twenty years. Virtanen was selected to run in the 100 metres and the 4 x 100 metres relay at the 1936 Berlin Olympics but did not advance from the heats in either race.
