Biography

In 1945, Joan Shepherd finished third in the WAAA 200 metres. Two years later, she won the Essex 220 yards title, and that same year was second in the WAAAs high jump, a title she would capture in an Olympic year and thus gain selection for the 1948 London Games. At Wembley, she was well short of her personal best, and failed to make the final 12. Shepherd was just at home running 440 and 880 yards, as well as 220.

Personal Best: LJ – 5.70 (1948).
