Biography

Peter Curry was born in the hill station of Murree, now part of Pakistan, where his father was serving in the British Army but was sent for schooling in England at an early age. An outstanding schoolboy athlete at Tonbridge School, Curry joined the Army shortly after the outbreak of World War Two and was posted back to India where he joined the Indian Artillery and fought in the Burma campaign and at the Battle of Kohima. After the end of the war he studied law at Oxford University and was chosen for the three miles at the World Student Games although he had to fund the trip himself. Curry was chosen for the steeplechase at the 1948 Olympics after winning the AAA Championships in only his second attempt at the event. He failed to progress from the heats in London and retired from the track at the end of the season.

From 1953 he dedicated himself to the law and eventually became one of his country’s leading barristers and was involved in a number of high profile cases. Curry represented John Lennon, George Harrison and Ringo Starr in a court case against Paul McCartney over the Apple record company in 1975 and at the start of the eighties he represented investors in the Banco Ambrosiano and attempted to retrieve money laundered from the bank by the Sicilian Mafia.

Personal Best: 3000S – unknown.
