Biography

Charles Johnstone attended both Glasgow and Edinburgh Universities but didn’t graduate from either. While at Edinburgh he was the Scottish Universities champion at the mile and 3 miles in 1923 and 1924, and in 1924 he won the 4 miles at the Scottish AAAs. These performances earned him selection for the Paris Olympics Games. In 1927 he won the Scottish Junior cross-country title although, at the time, junior status was decided by qualification and not by age.

Personal Bests: Mile – 4:32.4 (1924); 3 miles – 15:18.0 (1923); 4 miles – 20:32.0 (1924).
