Biography

By taking the 100 y-220 y double at the Irish AAAs for six successive years (1901-06) Denis Murray completely dominated Irish sprinting in the early years of the 20th century. In the Ireland vs. Scotland match, he had four successive victories in the 100 y (1901-04) and three in the 220 y (1902-04). In 1907 he won the long jump at the Irish and the AAA Championships and in 1908 he was runner-up at the AAAs. After he gave up active sport he settled in County Kildare as a farmer and owner of a racing stable. His brothers, Jack and William, also competed in the 1908 Olympics, the first time that three brothers had represented Britain at the Olympic Games in any sport.

Personal Bests: 100y – 10.0 (1901); 220y – 23.2 (1901); LJ – 7.08 (23-3) (1908).
