Biography

The son of major-general Vyvyan Pope CBE, DSO, MC, Michael Pope was just 14 when his father died in a plane crash in 1941. Pope was a prominent hurdler in the immediate post-war years, and won Sussex and Southern Counties 440-yard titles. He was also a Sussex 120y champion. Pope’s best finish in the AAAs, was fifth in the 440 hurdles in 1950.

Personal Best: 400H – 55.3 (1948).
