Biography

Albert Webster competed in the 1952 Olympics for Britain, placing fifth in the 800 at Helsinki, after setting what would be his career best of 1:50.1 (1:50.26) in the semi-final. In 1951 he had run in three internationals for Britain, leading to his selection for the team. Late in 1951 he ran the second leg on a British 4×880 y relay team (with Bill Nankeville, Frank Evans, and John Parlett) that set a world record of 7:30.6, with Webster running 1:52.9 for his leg. Webster was English Midlands AAA 880 yard champion in 1952, and defeated Roger Bannister, shortly after Bannister won the 1952 AAA 880, which sealed Webster’s place on the British Olympic team. After his competitive career ended, he coached athletics.

Personal Best: 800 – 1:50.1 (1:50.26) (1952).
