Biography

Helga Seidler, 400 metre runner, won the gold medal with the East German 4x400 relay at the 1972 München Olympics. She also came in fourth in the individual 400. Seidler won gold medals at the 1971 European Championships and the 1970 European Cup in both the 4x400 relay and 400. In 1971 and 1972 the 4x400 relay was elected East German Team of the Year. With the relay team Seidler set four world records in 1971 and 1972. She was East German Champion in the 400 in 1971 and runner-up one year later. Seidler was trained as a weaver, but later worked as a sports teacher and coach. One of her pupils was 400 runner Rico Lieder.

Personal Best: 400 – 51.5 (1972).
