Biography

Most of Ifor Fielding’s football career was whilst serving in the Royal Navy. He served on such notable ships as HMS Excellent, HMS Ganges, and HMS Hood. And having a BSc from Aberystwyth University, he served as a schoolmaster. When on leave, he would team up with 1936 Olympic team-mate Bill Peart and play as a wing-half for Gloucester City. Although chosen for the Berlin Olympics, Ifor, also known as Ivor, did not play in either of Britain’s matches. He played regularly for the Navy XI and also for the Combined Services. After leaving the Navy he stayed in Portsmouth and took up a teaching post in the town.
