He was born as Jakob Svatoš but mostly used the spelling Swatosch. Jakob Swatosch played throughout his career (1911-20) as a defensive midfielder for the 1. Simmeringer SC in Wien (Vienna) except for a short spell with Linzer ASK during the time of his military service in the 1912/13 season. After his début for the national team in 1911 in a friendly against Germany he represented Austria in two more games until 1914. He was selected for the 1912 Olympic Games in Stockholm but was not used.
After the outbreak of the 1st World War, he was immediately sent to the Russian front and was active in all major battles. Whenever he was on home leave, however, he played for Simmering. In the mid-1920s he also acted as coach for his club for some time. His brother Ferdinand won 23 caps between 1914 and 1925 and later coached professional teams in Germany.
