Biography

Cor van der Gijp was the youngest of four footballing brothers who made their senior débuts with SC Emma, with Cor starting around 1949. He stayed with them until 1955, when he transferred to Feyenoord, where he would go on to make 233 appearances through 1964. During that time, he won the top level of Dutch football twice, in 1961 and 1962. He finished his competitive career with a stint at Blauw-Wit Amsterdam from 1964 through 1967. Internationally, he earned 13 caps and scored six goals with the Dutch national team between 1954 and 1961 and was also selected as a reserve with the squad at the 1952 Helsinki Olympics, but did not see any playing time.

After his competitive career, van der Gijp worked as a coach and referee. From 1971-1972 he managed RVVH Ridderkek, while from 1972 through 1974 he was in charge of SC Veendam. He then opened a sport shop, but occasionally held brief coaching and technical roles with various teams through 1992, when he retired from football for good.
