Biography

Jörg Balke later married his non-Olympian teammate Rosemarie Klute and after the wedding of their daughter, Tina, to Olaf Hense, they became his parents-in-law. Rosemarie and Jörg Balke were later active on behalf of the National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA) to control high-performance athletes all over Germany. In his active career

Balke won several national titles in the 3×1,000 m relay with his home club PSV Berlin and also won the indoor 800 m in 1962, 1964 and 1967 and set one European record in 1965. Jörg Balke was eliminated in the semifinals over 800 at the 1960 Rome Olympics.
