Biography

As a captain and instructor of a unit of the Air Force in Carcassonne / Pyrenees, Helmut Bonnet was killed in action in 1944 in World War II. He was seriously injured on the retreat from the Allied troops during the South Invasion, being shot in the head, and died shortly after being brought to the base hospital IV. He rests in Berlin-Spandau at the war cemetery “In den Kisseln”.

In 1936 Bonnet was German Champion in the decathlon and was 1934 German Police Champion in the high jump and pole vault. At the 1936 Berlin Olympics he placed eighth in the decathlon. His son Prof. Dr. rer. nat. Peter-Helmut Bonnet (b. 13.04.1940 Berlin) later became an organic chemistry professor at Duisburg.
