Biography

Lothar Krieg was a 400 metre runner who won a bronze medal with the 4x400 relay at the 1976 Montréal Olympics. He would also have been nominated for the 1980 Moskva Olympics but could not start due to the US-led boycott. He won titles in the 4x400 relay at the 1977 World Cup, and 1977 and 1979 European Cups. At the 1978 European Championships Krieg finished fourth in the 400. He was German Champion in the 400 in 1976.

Krieg was educated as a sports teacher and coached sprinters with Eintracht Frankfurt. In 1987-88 he worked as the 400 national coach. He eventually became Director of Leisure and Fitness Sport for employees and trainees at the Frankfurt Airport AG (later Fraport AG).

Personal Best: 400 – 45.64 (1976).
