Rolf Ziegler

Rolf Ziegler, a 400 metre hurdler, reached the semifinals at the 1972 München Olympics but failed to qualify for the final. Although he was one of the world’s best 400 hurdlers in 1976, the German Athletes Association did not nominate him for the Montréal Games. At the 1974 Europeans he came in eighth, but won a silver medal with the 4x400 relay. In 1972, 1974 and 1976 he won West German titles over the 400 hurdles, also winning in 1976 in the 110 hurdles, and is the only German to win both titles in the same year, as of 2016.

Ziegler graduated as an electronic engineer, and worked as an assistant at university and as a technical director at an electronics firm in Vaihingen. He then started his own business, AMZ, which develops and manufactures customer oriented magnetic systems, including modules for analysis devices which helps to determine doping offenses.
