Biography

Stavros Moutaftsidis began his athletics career when he was 14-years-old when he took up the shot put and discus while at the American Agricultural School in Thessaloniki. His talents were then spotted by the Panathinaikos Athletic Club (PAOK) and he joined the club in 1966, focusing his efforts in the hammer throw. He became the Greek champion in 1970 and 1972 and the Balkan champion, also in 1972. In the same year Moutaftsidis competed in the hammer at the München Olympics where he finished in 15th place with a best throw of 68.30 metres. The following year he won his second Balkan championship when the games were held in Piraeus near to Athína.

Personal Best: HT – 69.24 (1972).
