Biography

Mihály Fekete started his sports career as a walker with Egyetértés in 1911. In 1912, he emigrated to Canada, but returned the next year. In 1913, however, he moved to the United States where he worked as waiter and continued his sports career in New York. He won numerous competitions as a walker, and his results were better than the official Hungarian records.

In 1924, his previous association asked Fekete to return and take part in the Paris Olympics, where he was disqualified. During his short return to Hungary, Fekete set seven national records.

Returning to America Fekete competed until 1940 for the Los Angeles AC. After completing his career, he remained in the catering business in various restaurants and clubs in California and worked as an official for the Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) until 1970.
