Biography

Hungarian long-distance runner János Pintér represented MAFC from 1957 to 1959 before representing Budapesti Spartacus throughout the 1960s. The Bulgarian capital of Sofia hosted the 1961 edition of the Summer Universiade, with Pintér winning gold in the 5,000 metres, beating Andrei Barabaș of Romania by less than half a second. Two years later he became the Hungarian champion in the 5,000 metres, earning himself a place at the 1964 Tokyo Olympics. Pintér failed to advance from his heat in the 5,000 metres in Tokyo, but went on to finish 37th in the marathon just a few days later.

Personal Bests: 5000 – 13:58.6 (1967); 10000 – 28:47.4 (1967); Mar – 2-16:34 (1968).
