A member of Dublin’s Crusaders Athletic Club, Reggie Styles never won an Irish title but came close in 1948 when finishing runner-up to Jack Gregory in the 100 and 220 yards, and he was also second to Cormac O’Cléirigh in the 440. All three races were on the same day. Myles was also third in the 100 and 220, again behind winner Gregory, in 1949.
Having represented Eire (Republic of Ireland) against Northern Ireland at Belfast in 1946, Styles made his full Ireland international début in the triangular match against England/Wales and Scotland at Manchester in 1948 and two weeks later competed in the 4 x 400 relay at the London Olympics. Unfortunately, the Irish squad was disqualified following a poor first hand-over between Charlie Denroche and Styles. By the time the exchange was eventually completed, Styles was out of the change-over zone.
