Biography

Ferruccio Bruni was an Italian athlete of the 1920s. A former bersagliere, or marksman in the Italian infantry, he returned to racing in 1921 after a long break and, on 3 October in the town of Este, he set an Italian record in the mile with 4:22.0, improving by one second the previous record that Emilio Lunghi had set 11 years earlier. In the same year Bruni finished second in the 1,500 metres at the Italian Championships behind Ernesto Ambrosini.

Mostly due to the presence of Guido Cominotto and Ettore Tavernari, Bruni concentrated on the 1,500, where he won his only national title at Busto Arsizio in 1922 (4:04.4) ahead of Disma Ferrario and Giuseppe Bonini. Bruni’s only international tournament was the 1924 Paris Olympics where he failed to advance out of the heats.

Personal Bests: 800 – 1:57.2 (1924); 1500 – 4:04.4 (1922); 3000 – unknown.
