Biography

Carlo Martinenghi was an Italian athlete who specialised in long-distance and cross-country running. In 1913 Martinenghi became the first national champion in the 10,000 metres, a distance he would compete in for the next decade or so. In 1920 he competed in the 5,000 metres, the 3,000 metres steeplechase, and the 3,000 metres team race at the Antwerpen Olympics, finishing fifth in the latter. One year after the Olympics he won his second national title with victory in the cross-country race. Martinenghi made his second and final appearance at the Olympics in 1924 in Paris where he finished seventh in the cross-country event.
