Attila Tímár-Geng began his sports career as a footballer in 1940, but later achieved international success in handball and basketball. As a handball player for MAFC, Tímár-Geng was a member of the Hungarian team that won the World College Championship in Paris in 1947, but he was even more successful as a basketball player. He won the national championship as a member of MAFC in 1944, MEFESZ in 1950, and Bp. Haladás SK in 1951. Between 1948 and 1950 he played for the Hungarian national team 13 times. He participated in the 1948 London Olympics, where the Hungarian team defeated Italy, Canada, and the host Great Britain, but lost to Uruguay and the group winners Brazil after extra time, so they did not advance to the top eight. The Hungarian management did not allow the team to play for 9th-16th place, so due to the lack of play, the team was automatically ranked 16th. He was also a member of the Hungarian team that finished third at the 1949 World College Championships in Budapest.
In civilian life he worked as a financial controller for the Ministry of Finance.
