Biography

While attending Meiji University, Tomie participated in the Hakone Ekiden long-distance relay in 1931-33 and 1935. At the 1936 Berlin Olympics, he participated in the 800 metres but did not start the 1,500. Tomie brought home an Olympic commemorative flag, which disappeared for about 40 years after it was lent to his former elementary school for a special event. In 1934, he represented Japan in the 1934 Far Eastern Games. Domestically, he won a national title in the 800 metres in 1937.
