Biography

During the 1920s Dutch long-distance runner Cornelis Brouwer represented DOS in Rotterdam. Brouwer won his first national title in 1920 with victory in the 10,000 metres, with him retaining his title the following year. He gradually turned his focus from the track to the road, becoming the Dutch champion in the 25 km in 1923. This earned him a place on the Dutch Olympic team for the 1924 Paris Games. Brouwer ran in the marathon in Paris but withdrew from the race at the 31 km mark.
