Biography

After studying at Russian and Soviet schools Julian Łukaszewicz returned to his native Poland in 1921. Łukaszewicz later graduated from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering at the Warszawa University of Technology. Alongside his studies he undertook track and field athletics with local clubs, becoming one of the best long-distance runners in the country.

Łukaszewicz ran in the 3,000 metres team race at the 1924 Paris Olympics where Poland finished in last place in their heat. Despite a poor performance at the Olympics he then won two Polish titles with wins in the 5,000 metres (1924) and the cross-country race (1925). Łukaszewicz also set national records in the 3,000, 5,000, and the 10,000 metres.

Personal Best: 3000 – 9:12.7 (1925).
