Biography

Virgil Ioan was a talented Romanian track and field athlete who set six national records during the latter half of the 1920s. Ioan set his first record in July 1926 when he ran the 400 metres hurdles in one minute dead. He would later go on to better his time three years later in Lviv with a time of 59.4 seconds. Over the summer of 1928 he set three Romanian records with personal bests in the decathlon, 400 metres, and the 4 × 400 metres relay. Less than a year later Ioan was once again part of the quartet that improved the national record in the 4 × 400 metres relay.

Ioan competed in the decathlon at the 1928 Amsterdam Olympics but only ran in the 100 metres before he withdrew from the competition. He was also scheduled to run in the 400 metres hurdles and the 4 × 100 metres relay in Amsterdam but did not start in either race.

Personal Best: Dec – 5148 (1928).
