Biography

Hendrick Ramaala was a distance runner who ran at four Olympics (1996-2008), with a best finish of 12th at the 2000 Sydney Olympics marathon.

Ramaala won the 2004 New York City Marathon and the Mumbai Marathon. At the half-marathon distance he won two silver medals at the 1998 and 1999 World Championships, and won the 1997 Belgrade Race through History, the 1998 Marseille-Cassis Classique Internationale, the 2001 Lisboa Half-Marathon, and the 2003 Portugal Half-Marathon.

Ramaala graduated from the University of the Witwatersrand with a law degree. He later established the Hendrick Ramaala Sport Foundation whose mission was to promote South African distance running to the world.

Personal Bests: 10000 – 27:29.94 (1999); Mar – 2-06:55 (2006).
