Biography

Born in Brighton, England, Arthur St. Norman moved to South Africa where he took up long-distance running, representing the Johannesburg Harriers. St. Norman won the 1911 Transvaal 3 Miles Walking Championship and went to the 1912 Stockholm Olympics as one of the favourites for the walk. At the Stockholm Games he competed in the 10km racewalk, finishing in second place in his heat, before he was disqualified during the final on the eighth lap. He also ran in the marathon but did not finish the race. A month after the Olympics St. Norman won the 104.5 mile walk from London to Brighton and back.
