Biography

Jo Horny began his boxing career in the mid-1950s, winning two fights in his native Belgium, before losing in the final of the Belgian amateur flyweight championship in March 1957. Three years later, however, Horny won the title in a bout in Liege, earning himself a place on the Olympic team in the process. At the Roma Games he received a bye before losing to Paolo Curcetti (ITA) by decision. He then turned professional, boxing all over Europe for the next decade. Horny had mixed fortunes during his pro career, losing three of his first four fights, before having a three-match winning streak. It would turn out to be his best form in the ring, finishing with a career record of 28 fights with 11 wins and 17 defeats. Horny did finish on a high, winning his final two fights in early 1971 in Bruxelles before retiring.
