Biography

Bernard Marchand was a Swiss track and field athlete who specialised as a sprinter. From Saint-Ursanne, Marchand was the son of the mayor of the town at time of his selection to compete at the 1936 Berlin Olympics. At the Berlin Games he ran in the 100 metres and the 4 x 100 metres relay but did not advance from the heats in either race. Two years later he finished sixth in the final of the 100 meters at the 1938 European Championships in Paris.
