Biography

Willy Schneider was a Swiss sprinter who competed in the 100 metres and the 4 × 100 metres relay at the 1952 Helsinki Olympics. In the 100 metres Schneider finished in third place in his heat, but only the top-two from each heat progressed to the quarter-finals. In the relay race the Swiss quartet finished in last place in their heat and were eliminated from the event.

After the Helsinki Olympics Schneider ran in the 100 metres at the Zürich American Meeting where he kept pace with Jim Golliday, the 1951 United States 100 metres champion. Once the race was over, Golliday wanted to know more about Schneider’s technique when it came to his start.

Personal Best: 100 – 10.7 (1952).
