Biography

Christian Wägli ran the 400 and 800 metres, competing at the 1960 Roma Olympics in the 800 and 4x400. He was also on the 1956 Swiss Olympic team but did not start. In 1960 Wägli was chosen to carry the Swiss flag at the Closing Ceremony. He was Swiss Champion over 800 metres in 1958-59 and in 1958 he was selected as Swiss Athlete of the Year. Wägli finished eighth at the 1958 Europeans, and was capped 19 times. Wägli set six Swiss records in the 800 and two in the 1000 metres. In the 800 metres, Track & Field News had him world ranked 10th in 1959 and 6th in 1960. He later had a business career in finance with Wander AG.

Personal Bests: 400 – 47.1 (1960); 800 – 1:47.40 (1960).
