Biography

Paulus af Uhr’s high jump record was rather spotty. In 1914, after producing a new national record, clearing 1.884, he was a favored to win at the Baltic Games, yet ended fourth. However, later that season he won the high jump in the national match against Hungary, defeating well known Hungarian jumper Jenő Gáspár. His victories also included a win in a city match, af Uhr beating the favourite, Karl-Axel Kullerstrand, in 1913.

Af Uhr, whose family belonged to the local nobility, made a career in the Air Force, becoming a major general. In 1918 he crash landed, the plane penetrating the wall of a hangar, but luckily af Uhr escaped without being seriously hurt.

Personal Best: HJ – 1.884 (1914).
