As an amateur, Jorge Sacomã was champion of São Paulo, Brazil and South America. He competed at the 1959 Pan American Games and the 1960 Olympic Games. He turned professional in July 1961 and would retire with a career record of 14 wins (7 by KO) and 6 losses. Sacomã fought exclusively in Brazil and never had any major title fights but in April 1966 fought João Henrique for the Brazilian super-lightweight title, losing by knock-out, and he then retired after the fight. Sacomã was taught by Aristides Kid Jofre, the father of Éder Jofre, who boxed at the 1956 Olympics, and was World Professional Bantamweight Champion from 1960-65.
