Only at the age of 16, Chainarong Wangganont ran for the Thai 4×100 m team in the Asian Games 1986, the team reaching the final and a 6th place. In 1998 he came second in 200 m at the Asian Junior Championship, before being selected for the 4×100 m Olympic team.
