Biography

Mansour Guettaya began representing Tunisia in international track athletics in the late 1960s, but hit his greatest stride in the early years of the following decade. In 1971 he won both the 800 and 1500 metres events at the Mediterranean Games, a feat that earned him the title of Tunisian Sportsman of the Year. He then took part in the 1972 Munich Olympics, where he was eliminated in round one of the 1500 metres and the semi-finals of the 800 metres. In 1975 he was runner-up to Yugoslavia’s Boško Božinović in the 1500 metres at the Mediterranean Games, and had his final major international podium finishes at the Arab Championships in 1977, where he took silver in the 1500 metres and gold in the 5000 metres.

Personal Bests: 800 – 1:47.5 (1971); 1500 – 3:38.8 (1972).
