Biography

Lithuanian Remigijus Valiulis was selected for the Soviet national team in 1979 after he had won his only medal, a silver in 400 metres, at the Soviet Championships and after he set a new Soviet 400 record of 45.73 at the 1979 Universiade. He stayed with the Soviet national team only one season but during that year he won the 400 bronze at the European Indoor Championships and a 4x400 relay gold medal at the 1980 Olympics. Valiulis was an eight-time Lithuanian SSR champion between 1975-83. After finishing his sports career Valiulis worked as an athletics coach in Vilnius, but in 1995 set up his own car dealership in Vilnius.
