Biography

Coleen Sommer was a high jumper who competed at the 1988 Seoul Olympics. She was a two-time Pan American Games Champion (1983, 1987) in the high jump and her best finish at a major international was fourth at the 1983 World Championships. Sommer attended Arizona State University, graduating in 1981. Sommer won the US title in 1980 and 1987 and was runner-up in 1985 and 1988. In February 1982 she set a world indoor record of 2.00 metres at a meet in Ottawa, Canada. Sommer broke the American outdoor record when she cleared 1.98 metres in June 1982 in Durham, North Carolina.
