Biography

Brian Abshire was a middle-distance runner mostly known for the steeplechase. He competed in that event at the 1988 Seoul Olympics, making the semi-finals, but failing to advance to the final. Abshire had won the event that year at the US Olympic Trials. He also won a bronze medal in the steeple at the 1987 Pan Americans. He was second in the event at the 1987 and 1989 US Championships and third in 1990.

Abshire started college in Oregon at Clackamas Community College, but then transferred to Auburn University where he was twice an All-American in cross-country, an All-American indoors in the 3,000 metres, and a two-time All-American in the steeplechase.

Personal Best: 3000S – 8:20.83 (1987).
