Biography

Frank Devlin was the son of Irish immigrants, and grew up in New York City where his father, Hugh was a carpenter. A member of the Mott Haven Athletic Club alongside his younger brother Hugh, Frank was a prominent runner and was also noted to have been a proficient wrestler, despite his diminutive size.

Also known by the nickname “Dick”, Devlin was chosen to represent his club at the 1904 World’s Fair in St. Louis, finishing in eleventh place in the marathon. Afterwards, he continued to represent the colors of Mott Haven Athletic Club cross country events into the late 1900s. He was a plumber by profession.
