Biography

Darnell Hall considered himself a very lucky man as he came out of the Detroit housing projects to win a gold medal in the 4x400 at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics, and later added gold medals in the same event at the 1995 World Championships and at the 1993 World Indoors. Hall also won gold at the 1995 World Indoors in the open 400 metres. Hall ran at Blinn Junior College in Texas, winning the Junior College Indoor title in 400 in 1991 and 1992, finishing second in that event outdoors in 1991. He won his only USA title indoors in 1994, adding bronze medals indoors and outdoors at the USA Nationals in 1995. Hall was coached by his father, who had been a pole vaulter. Darnell Hall later became a policeman in Detroit.
