Biography

As an athlete, William Rand competed for Harvard and finished third in the 120y hurdles at the 1909 IC4A Meet. In World War I, he served in the Navy as an aide to future President Franklin Roosevelt, who was then Assistant Secretary of the Navy. Rand later joined the Monsanto Chemical Corporation and eventually became President of that company, retiring in 1950. He then spent three years as deputy director of the U.S. Foreign Operations Administration.
