Eugen Furesz was born and raised in Timisoara. He took up boxing at an early age, and won his first Romanian heavyweight championship in 1952, which earned him a selection for the Romanian Olympic team. In Helsinki, he lost his only match by a 3-0 decision to Tomislav Krizmanić of Yugoslavia. He defended his title once again in 1953, and later became a boxing trainer.
