Biography

Austrian track & field athlete and wrestler Franz Solar qualified for the athletics competitions at the 1906 Intercalated Athens Olympics when he won the Ancient pentathlon, finished second in the Greek style discus throw, and was third in the conventional discus throw at the Austrian selection competition held in Vienna (WAC field) on 8 April 1906. In the 1907 unofficial European wrestling championship, held in Vienna, Solar finished second in the unlimited Greco-Roman class.

Solar then placed 24th in the ancient pentathlon and had an unknown result in the shot put at the Athens Games. He also tied fifth in the Greco-Roman wrestling middleweight event, losing the quarter-finals to his team-mate Rudoolf Lindmayer. Solar was also a member of the Austrian tug-of-war team that finished fourth, and last, after defeats by Germany (2-0) and Sweden (2-0).
