Fourth in the all-round team gymnastics competition at the 1906 Olympics, Pierino Caccialupi practiced athletics, swimming and football, as well as gymnastics, as a youngster. During World War I, he was a medical officer, and later a chief ear, nose and throat (ENT) surgeon. He was also a journalist and writer, notably writing books about hunting like Tra le braccia di Diana (1939) and Tre cani da caccia (1942). Caccialupi also wrote a book about the life of the well-known inventor and engineer, Guglielmo Marconi in 1938, entitled Il dominatore dell’infinito. As a journalist, he was editor of the newspapers La caccia and La caccia settimanale.
