Biography

Alpine skier Monika Berwein was mainly a slalom and giant slalom specialist. She came to prominence in the mid-1970s, winning the giant slalom at the European Youth Championships in 1974, and slalom in 1975. She also had one World Cup podium, in 1976, and finished in the first ten several times between 1975-77.

At the 1976 Innsbruck Winter Games, Berwein did not advance to the second run in the slalom. Domestically, she won two silver medals at the West German nationals. She later became a skiing instructor, and owned a skiing school with some holiday flats at Bad Oberdorf.
