Biography

Figure skater Helga Dudzinski finished 12th at the 1952 Oslo Winter Olympics in the women’s singles. At the World Championships, she was 12th in 1951, 11th in 1952 and withdrew the following year. At the European Championships she was seventh in 1951, fifth in 1952, and fourth in 1953. Dudzinski was the German Champion three years in succession, 1949-51. She later skated in professional ice shows.

Her husband Ivar Karl Ugi (1930-2005) was an Estonian-born German chemist who made major contributions to organic chemistry. He became known for his research on multi-component reactions, yielding the Ugi reaction.
