Biography

Although the best-known skier in the Greene family was her younger sister Nancy, Elizabeth Greene was an accomplished skier in her own right, having competed at the Canadian junior national championships since the mid-1950s. In 1958 she was the junior national champion in combined, slalom, and downhill, defending those titles in 1959, albeit sharing the slalom podium with Sandy Osborne. Thus, at the age of 18, Elizabeth was selected to represent Canada at the 1960 Squaw Valley Olympics, where she was 24th in the slalom, 28th in the giant slalom, and 32nd in the downhill.

Greene continued skiing for a while after the Games, but elected to focus on her education and her job as a school teacher, eventually earning degrees in physical education and public administration. After helping getting Len Marchand elected to Parliament as its first indigenous member, she moved to Ottawa for a career in public service.
