Susi Riermeier

Susi Riermeier, who became a physician, started her sports career as a cross-country skier, participating in the 1980 Lake Placid Winter Olympics, finishing 31st in the 5 km and 21st at 10 km. She won eight West German titles: 5 km (1978, 1981); 10 km (1977, 1979, 1981); and 15 km (1978-80).

Riermeier then turned to long-distance running with a personal best in the marathon of 2-36:10, winning the 1984 West German national title. From 1975 to 1982 she won eight consecutive titles at the Hochfellnberglauf, Germany’s oldest and most important mountain run. She also participated at the 1983 World Championships in the 10K and at the International Cross-Country Championships in 1985-86. Her daughter Sophia Saller became an internationally successful triathlete.
